Make your barn nice and bright with a simple skylight ridge cap replacement.

Low-Cost (Sky) Light

The lowest-cost way to dramatically improve a barn’s friendliness is through replacing a metal ridge cap with a clear poly skylight ridge. This one change alone allowed us, even in the dead of winter, to work in the barn at most hours of the day with no need for supplemental light. Unlike doors, which sit on only one side of a barn and thus capture far less light for far less of the day, a skylight ridge cap gives light all day long, and even at night during strong moonlight. Unlike trying to put in skylights, which are fairly expensive and, unless done right, can lead to roof leaks and other problems, this is a simple DIY replacement that, depending on your barn, will run you under a hundred bucks. All you need is the proper width skylight ridge cap, proper screws for attaching it to your roof, and then the proper sealant, if any, to keep heavy winds from pushing rain or weather under the gap and into your barn, along with a cordless drill and the right bits to remove and replace the old ridge.
